Peter Dawkins gives an in-depth presentation of the characters surrounding Francis Bacon who were instrumental in planning and creating the Shakespeare plays. The cast of characters included ladies and gentlemen of the Elizabethan court to playwrights and actors of the London stage

The Shakespeare Group

Peter Dawkins gives a personal, informal presentation of the characters surrounding Francis Bacon who seem to have been involved, directly or indirectly, in helping to create the Shakespeare plays. The cast of characters included ladies and gentlemen of the Elizabethan court as well as lawyer-poets, playwrights and actors of the London stage.

These men and women, referred to as the Shakespeare circle, supported the great writing in many ways. Their goal was not just to entertain, but to educate the audiences and create a cultural revolution. Play-goers absorbed new words, a moral compass, political and social ideas, and a national identity.

Sir Francis Bacon

Francis Bacon ever planning his Great Instauration

Now my charms are all o'erthrown,
And what strength I have's mine own,
Which is most faint: now, 'tis true,
I must be here confined by you,
Or sent to Naples. Let me not,
Since I have my dukedom got
And pardon'd the deceiver, dwell
In this bare island by your spell;
But release me from my bands
With the help of your good hands:
Gentle breath of yours my sails
Must fill, or else my project fails
,
Which was to please. Now I want
Spirits to enforce, art to enchant,
And my ending is despair,
Unless I be relieved by prayer,
Which pierces so that it assaults
Mercy itself and frees all faults.
As you from crimes would pardon'd be,
Let your indulgence set me free.
Prospero from The Tempest
